About FACT (Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Limited): |
Travancore Limited or FACT is a fertilizer and chemical products manufacturing company based in Kochi, Kerala, India. The company was established in 1943 by Maharajah Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma. It is the first fertilizer manufacturing company in independent India and the largest Central Public Sector Company (CPSU) in the state of Kerala.
The company has two production units: the Udyogamandal Complex (UC) in Eloor, Udyogamandal, and the Cochin Division (CD) in Ambalamedu. In 1947, FACT began producing ammonium sulfate with an installed capacity of 50,000 tons per year in Udyogamandal, near Cochin. The caprolactam plant in Udyogamandal was launched in 1990. The main products of the company are ammonia, sulfuric acid, ammonium phosphate (FACTAMFOS), ammonium sulfate, galvanized ammonium phosphate, carpool, custom, and complex fertilizers. Gypsum, nitric acid, sodium carbonate, and colored ammonium sulfate are the main by-products.
