Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) is a coal maker situated in India. The organization was established in 1975 after the nationalization of coal mineshafts in India. It works coal mines in Jharkhand and West Bengal conditions of India. It acquired all the private segment coal mineshafts of the Raniganj Coalfield. The organization has its central command at Sanctoria, in West Bengal. Coalmining in India originally began in the Raniganj Coalfield. Creation from these mines in 1973-74 was 21 million tons, of which 20.744 million tons were from underground mines and the rest from manual quarries.
